Ivan's Childhood

Monday 14 March 2011

Performance Time: 19:30 Venue: Lakeside Theatre

The tale of Ivan, a twelve-year-old boy who loses his family and joins the Russian Army as a spy is legendary director Andrei Tarkovsky’s first feature film. With typically breath-taking visuals and an adamant refusal to glorify war in any form, the film won the Golden Lion at Venice in 1962 and was described by Sartre as “one of the most beautiful films I have had the privilege of seeing.”
Screened in collaboration with Moving Image. Moving Image and Reelappeal are projects of Wivenhoe Film Theatre. Screenings at Lakeside Theatre, University of Essex and the Phillip Road Centre in Wivenhoe.
